In 2011, during my residency at the European Ceramic Workcenter (EKWC) in the Netherlands, I began exploring glaze experimentation alongside artist Marien Schouten. After my residency, I worked as Marien’s assistant until 2013 on a major commission for the Dutch Palace of Justice, where we created four large sculptural ceramic works. I helped refine feldspar glazes, some of which were used in the final pieces.
In 2022, I returned to ceramics after a period focused on curating and collaboration. Marien generously gifted me several glaze formulas from our earlier work, which I am now expanding—experimenting with oxidation firings, substituting materials, testing different clays, and exploring how these glazes perform on functional ware. This project is still in its early stages, but here are some of the first results—an evolution of a journey that began at EKWC and continues to inspire new possibilities in ceramics.
